HC Deb 21 February 1949 vol 461 c229W
85. Mr. Willey

asked the Minister of Supply whether his attention has been called to the inclusion of a loaded pistol, detonators and explosive rockets in a box of kites, sold at a Government surplus store in High Street, West Sunderland, and purchased for the use of children; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. G. R. Strauss

Yes. I regret that some boxes of distress signal kites, which were sold by auction in a mixed lot, in fact contained distress signal accessories as well. The boxes were recovered from the purchasers and no harm was caused. there are standing instructions about the treatment of dangerous stores and, as a further precaution the attention of superintendents of disposal depots has been drawn to this case.
