HC Deb 21 February 1949 vol 461 c224W
21. Mr. Frederic Harris

asked the Minister of Food whether in view of the fact that home production of lactose is ample to meet our requirements, the import of lactose will be discontinued.

Mr. Strachey

No. Lactose is not imported by the Ministry, but by private traders under licence, who have to pay a substantial import duty. I see no reason for further restrictions.
