Hannonasked the Minister of Transport if he will make regulations under Section 98 of the Transport Act, 1947, to provide for the revision of pensions granted under superannuation schemes by railway and canal companies having regard to the increased cost of living since retirement took place.
§ Mr. CallaghanNo. The question of granting supplementary allowances to existing pensioners has been raised by the trade unions and by other parties with the Railway Executive, who have had to decline such applications on grounds of cost. My right hon. Friend would not feel justified in making regulations on this subject.
