HC Deb 14 February 1949 vol 461 c123W
102. Mr. Jeger

asked the Minister of Works whether he is aware of the resentment in Winchester arising from his action in proposing to use the Corner House Hotel for offices, when the city is short of hotel and residential accommodation; and whether the local council were consulted.

Mr. Key

I am not aware of any resentment. The owners tried to sell the premises for use as an hotel, but subsequently offered them to my Ministry on lease for use as offices. Representatives of the local council were consulted and agreed to the proposal.
