HC Deb 09 February 1949 vol 461 cc67-8W
97. Colonel Ropner

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether he will cause an inquiry to be made into the present methods of marking high ground for the prevention of flying accidents: and whether he will consider the reintroduction of radio beacons for this purpose.

Mr. A. Henderson

I am grateful to the hon. and gallant Member for his suggestion but I am advised, as is my noble Friend the Minister of Civil Aviation, that the reintroduction of radio beacons would be of limited value for either service or civil aircraft. It is considered that careful briefing of aircrews and a high standard of navigation are at present the most, effective means of avoiding high ground.
