HC Deb 09 February 1949 vol 461 c66W
93. Mr. Rankin

asked the Postmaster-General in view of the increasing installations of automatic telephone systems, what steps he is taking to enable totally blind subscribers to use the automatic dial.

Mr. Wilfred Paling

When it is known that an automatic telephone, to be provided for a subscriber, will be used by a blind person, arrangements are made to mark the edge of the dial fingerplate by small file cuts against the numbers four and seven. This device was adopted many years ago on the suggestion of the hon. Member for Lonsdale (Sir I. Fraser).
