HC Deb 29 April 1949 vol 464 cc27-8W
Air Commodore Harvey

asked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations what progress has been made with the Canadian Government regarding the enforcement of maintenance orders against Canadian subjects who have illegitimate children in this country.

Mr. P. Noel-Baker

Under the provisions of the Maintenance Orders Facilities for Enforcement) Act, 1920, arrangements far the mutual enforcement of maintenance orders have been made with the Provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Ontario.

As my right hon. Friend the Minister of State said on 2nd February, 1948, in reply to the hon. Member for Leyton, West (Mr. Sorensen), however, this Act expressly excludes affiliation orders, as no arrangements for their enforcement in Canada exist.
