HC Deb 09 November 1948 vol 457 c174W
Mr. A. Edward Davies

asked the Minister of Labour what facilities now exist for the training and employment of registered disabled persons in North Staffordshire; and whether any further schemes are now in process of completion.

Mr. Isaacs

Training facilities for the disabled in North Staffordshire are available in a number of employers' establishments; in addition, there are training courses in the Ministry's own centres and in technical colleges in Birmingham and elsewhere in the Midlands. Continuous efforts are made to find suitable employment for the disabled, but the demand is in the main for women workers; the possibility of substituting disabled men in some of the jobs traditionally performed by women is under discussion with employers' organisations.
