HC Deb 09 November 1948 vol 457 cc172-3W
Major Lloyd

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware of the great shortage of men's artisan clothing throughout Scotland; and whether he can arrange for the necessary cotton to be made available to the manufacturers, so that steps can be taken to remedy the situation.

Mr. H. Wilson

There is a general shortage of working clothes made of cotton, such as overalls. Our aim is to maintain supplies of cloth at the maximum level consistent with the achievement of the export target for cotton goods. This particular type of cotton goods is an important dollar-earner.
