asked the Minister of Labour how many personnel are employed at the London Appointments Office; and what is their total annual salary.

Mr. Isaacs

The staff at London Appointments Office is 494 (including messengers and cleaners) and the current annual cost of salaries is about £190,000.

Colonel Crosthwaite-Eyre

asked the Minister of Labour how many people are employed at York House, Kingsway, London, in compiling and maintaining the Technical and Scientific Register; and what is their annual pay.

Mr. Isaacs

The staff of the Technical and Scientific Register at York House, Kingsway, number 189, their annual pay being approximately £77,000. I should add that the staff figure includes, in addition to those engaged in compiling and maintaining the Register, a number whose work entails such activities as surveys of various kinds into the present and future distribution of, and demand for, technical and scientific manpower, visits to Universities and liaison with University Appointments Boards and the examination of, interviewing for and submission to, vacancies notified to the Register.

The total annual cost of maintaining the Technical and Scientific Register at York House and the Appointments Office at Tavistock Square is about £91,000 and £222,000 respectively.
