HC Deb 04 November 1948 vol 457 cc91-2W
8. Mr. Spence

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many applications for naturalisation by Polish subjects have been made during the years 1946, 1947 and 1948 to date; and how many of these are from persons giving addresses in Scotland, England and Wales respectively.

Mr. Ede

One thousand and eight Polish subjects applied for naturalisation in 1946, 933 in 1947 and 2,053 in the first ten months of 1948. Separate figures for applications from England, Scotland and Wales could not be obtained without an expenditure of labour which would not be justified, but I can say that about 40 per cent. of the applications received in 1948 came from addresses in London.
