HC Deb 04 November 1948 vol 457 cc97-8W
53. Mr. J. Lewis

asked the Minister of Labour if he will give an estimate of the number of machinists who have been discharged from firms manufacturing utility drills during the past three months, as a result of the reduction in the home programme for all types of cotton cloth.

Mr. Isaacs

So far as I have been able to ascertain, no discharges of machinists from firms in Lancashire, manufacturing utility drills, have taken place within the past three months, though there have been one or two cases of short-time being worked.
