HC Deb 04 November 1948 vol 457 c132W
Mr. Platts-Mills

asked the Minister of Transport what arrangements he proposes to make to ensure that maximum use will be made of British shipping to transport to the United Kingdom commodities purchased under the Marshall Plan.

Mr. Barnes

British shipping secures its share of cargo in international trade through normal commercial channels in competition with the shipping of other flags and in this way is making a great and increasing contribution to the improvement of our balance of payments. I do not consider it necessary to propose any other arrangements in respect of cargo shipped under the European Recovery Plan.
