HC Deb 04 November 1948 vol 457 cc127-8W
128. Mr. Sargood

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power if he will make a statement on the directions he has given for the application of the proposals of the Clow Committee for a seasonal variation in certain domestic electricity charges; and how these proposals will effect an equitable reduction in the consumption of electricity.

Mr. Gaitskell

I have not given any directions to the Electricity Boards in regard to the recommendations of the Clow Committee, but as indicated in my reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Stockton-on-Tees (Mr. Chetwynd) on 30th July, I have asked the Electricity Boards to put into effect the recommendation of that Committee that there should be a seasonal adjustment in certain domestic electricity charges, which provides for a winter surcharge offset by a rebate in the rest of the year. As regards the last part of the Question I would refer my hon. Friend to the speech I made yesterday during the Debate on the Address.
