HC Deb 02 November 1948 vol 457 c42W
84. Mr. Norman Smith

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury if he is aware that certain wage-earners are receiving demands for alleged under-deductions of P.A.Y.E. as long ago as 1944–45, amounting in some cases to more than £40; and how many such cases are now being handled by his Department.

Mr. Glenvil Hall

I very much regret that cases of this nature have arisen owing to shortage of staff and pressure of work in Tax Districts, but I am afraid that information as to the number of such cases is not available. I will communicate with my hon. Friend as soon as possible about the particular case on which he has written to me.
