§ 92. Mr. Palmerasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what steps are being taken to economise in the expenditure of dollars by diplomatic and consular services in the United States.
Mr. McNeilAfter a preliminary survey by the Head of the Administrative Departments of the Foreign Office and a senior inspector of the Foreign Service, the latter was appointed Minister in charge of the Administrative Section of the Embassy at Washington in April, 1947. There he has been reviewing all Foreign Service expenditure in the United States, including rents, numbers of staff employed, and other incidental expenses. My right hon. Friend is accordingly satisfied that Foreign Service expenditure in the United States will be reduced as much as is practicable.
