§ Dr. SummerskillDuring the year 1947–48 the British Sugar Corporation produced the equivalent of 429,000 tons of refined sugar, all of which was bought by my Department. During this year the subsidy to the British Sugar Corporation, which takes the form of a deficiency payment based upon the difference between cost of production and revenue from sugar and by-products, is estimated to have been approximately 1s. 4d. per cwt.
