HC Deb 08 July 1948 vol 453 c48W
64. Mr. Baker White

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many entry permits he proposes to grant to members of the Executive Committee of the World Federation of Democratic Youth which proposes to meet in London on 14th July.

Mr. Ede

The United Kingdom has no system of entry permits. Applications for visas, or—in the case of nationals of countries with whom visa abolition agreements have been concluded—application to an Immigration Officer for leave to land will be dealt with in the usual way. I know of no reason why, in proper cases and subject to the usual safeguards in regard to documentation, visas and leave to land should not be granted to foreign visitors for the purpose of attending the meeting in question.
