Mr. Swingler

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what are the average daily working hours of the inmates of His Majesty's Prison, Stafford; and what proportion of them is doing manual work.

In 1947, out of an average population of about 630 an average of 610 was employed on manual work. The average hours of work were seven a day while employed outside the prison and four and a half a day while employed in the prison workshops.
