HL Deb 12 February 1948 vol 153 cc1073-4WA
LORD KILLANIN

asked His Majesty's Government how many I.R.A. prisoners in Great Britain have had their sentences reviewed since 18th November, IQ47, how many were released before their full term had expired, and how many of the prisoners remain in Parkhurst Prison?

The: Lord CHANCELLOR (Viscount Jowitt)

Six of the persons sentenced to penal servitude for the part they took in the I.R.A. outrages in 1939 and 1940 have so far been released on licence earlier than they would have been released in the ordinary course. Twenty-six are still in prison. All these cases have recently been reviewed in accordance with the ordinary practice in the case of long sentences of penal servitude, and the Home Secretary will continue to consider the cases individually from time to time and will not fail to take into account anything which tells in favour of advancing the date of an individual prisoner's release on licence.

House adjourned at ten minutes past six o'clock.
