HC Deb 10 February 1948 vol 447 cc42-3W
90. Miss Bacon

asked the Minister of National Insurance if he will allow those pensioners who are still working and receiving 10s. per week when the new Act becomes operative to make a choice between continuing to receive 10s. per week and relinquishing the 10s. in order to qualify for the increased pension on retirement.

Mr. J. Griffiths

I have no evidence of any substantial demand for such a change and there would, I am afraid, be very serious practical difficulties if such an option were introduced into the scheme. I may say, however, that great importance is attached to the increments in inducing persons to remain at work beyond pensionable age and the effect of the new scheme in this respect will be closely watched.
