HC Deb 09 February 1948 vol 447 c15W
87. Commander Agnew

asked the Minister of Food what quantity of broccoli from abroad he has contracted for to come into this country; and how much of that remains to be landed here.

Dr. Summerskill

My Department is not purchasing broccoli. These are imported on private account under licence which limits the quantity that may be imported.

88. Commander Agnew

asked the Minister of Food whether he has yet arranged with the authority responsible for fixing the rate of duty applicable to imported broccoli that that duty shall be increased without delay so as to afford adequate protection to Cornish and other home producers.

Dr. Summerskill

My right hon. Friend has not considered it necessary to make such a suggestion.
