HC Deb 09 February 1948 vol 447 cc15-6W
89. Mr. H. D. Hughes

asked the Minister of Food what is the minimum increase of population taken into account in revising allocations of food supplies to particular areas; and how often are changes in population reviewed for this purpose.

Dr. Summerskill

The minimum increase is about 5 per cent. based on a quarterly review of the population.

101. Mr. F. Willey

asked the Minister of Food whether he has considered the views of the Sunderland Food Control Committee regarding the terms of allocation of supplies to confectioners; and whether he has reviewed the terms of this allocation with particular reference to the hardships imposed on towns such as Sunderland which are in areas formerly designated distressed areas and whether he will make a statement.

Dr. Summerskill

Sunderland received an increase of 14 per cent. in its allocations of oils and fats, sugar and meat for manufacturing purposes early last year to meet the point raised by the Food Control Committee.
