HC Deb 04 February 1948 vol 446 cc277-8W
65. Mr. Piratin

asked the Minister of Food why he has authorised the increase in the price of eggs by 1¼d.; and what will be the national annual total increase to the consumers.

Mr. Strachey

The prices of shell eggs have been increased in order to keep subsidies within the ceiling announced by the Chancellor in his Financial Statement. The increased cost to the consumer on the basis of consumption in the calendar year 1947 would be £15,425 million.
