HC Deb 02 February 1948 vol 446 cc216-7W
60. Mr. Pickthorn

asked the Minister of Agriculture what was the total of subsidies paid to farm water supplies in 1947; and what were the expenses of such subsidisation, in respect of preliminary investigation, administration, wages, transport, etc.

Mr. T. Williams

The payment of grants totalling £430,000 was authorised in 1947 in respect of completed farm water supply schemes in England and Wales. It would not be possible, even with extensive research, to separate out figures of the administrative and other expenses incurred by executive committees on this part of their many responsibilities.

68. Sir G. Fox

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he will consider reducing the number of plans and forms required to enable work to be commenced for a supply of water to a 200 acre farm in view of the fact that this at present entails the use of 41 square feet of paper together with eight foolscap forms.

Mr. T. Williams

I am not aware that any unnecessary documents are required in connection with applications for grant on farm water supply schemes, but if the hon. and gallant Member will let me have details of the particular case he has in mind which appears, on the face of it, to be exceptional, I shall be glad to look into it from this standpoint.
