HC Deb 02 February 1948 vol 446 cc241-2W
Mr. A. Edward Davies

asked the Minister of Food whether he is aware of the high prices which are being charged for soap substitutes; and whether he will take steps to control them.

Mr. Strachey

Retail prices of soap substitutes are controlled by my Department under the Soap Substitutes (Labelling and Prices) Order, 1943. Prices are high because raw materials and packing materials are expensive, but if my hon. Friend has in mind a case in which the price charged is considered excessive, I should be glad to have it investigated.
