§ 88. Mr. Gallacherasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs on what evidence the Regional Commissioners of Schleswig-Holstein and Rhine-Westphalia have decided that the People's Congress for German Unity is a disguised Communist organisation and have banned its meetings on this account, and since this is an act which interferes with the democratic rights of the German people, if he will issue an instruction to the Commissioners to stop this political discrimination.
Mr. McNeilThe People's Congress purports to represent all parties and sections of the population. In fact it has been officially repudiated by all the recognised political parties except the German Communist Party. Its organisers were almost all either members of the German Communist Party or persons with known Communist sympathies. This organisation represents an attempt by the organisers to circumvent the provisions of Military Government Ordinance No. 10, the object of which is to ensure that political activities are conducted honestly and openly and that the sponsors of such activities and the policies they advocate should be clearly identified.
