§ Mr. Dribergasked the Attorney-General what action he proposes to take regarding a pamphlet entitled "Why You Should Vote Socialist" to which his attention has been drawn, and which only bears the imprint of a monomark and a small mark 2194-F.L.
§ The Attorney-GeneralIn view of the nature of the printed matter, I do not consider that proceedings should be instituted, but the publisher and the printers have been informed that these imprints246W are not sufficient compliance with the provisions of the Newspapers, Printers and Reading Rooms Repeal Act, 1869, and they have been warned that in the event of any future offence proceedings will be taken. It appears to have been thought that the imprint 2194-F.L. constituted a sufficient compliance with the law. This mark indicated that the printers were registered with the London Master Printers' Association, who are associated with the Federation of Master Printers, but in my view it would certainly not convey to the public the information which the Statute requires to be made available to them. I am assured that neither the Association nor the Federation have ever represented or advised that this mark constituted an imprint which would comply with the law. No question therefore arises of any breach of the law by them, nor has any warning been addressed to them.
