HC Deb 02 February 1948 vol 446 cc225-6W
80. Mr. York

asked the Minister of Works whether he is aware that his decision to include the labour of the permanent staff of farms in the cost of minor building works will prevent the economical employment of farm workers during slack periods in winter; and whether he will reconsider this decision.

Mr. Key

There is no new decision in this matter. Under Defence Regulation 56A it has always been necessary to include the cost of labour used, in assessing the total cost of work, even if such labour consists of farm workers. Licences are readily granted for work on farm buildings, particularly if farm workers are available to do the work.
