HC Deb 02 December 1948 vol 458 cc218-9W
Mr. Gammans

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what agreement has been reached with regard to the insurance of Malayan property arising from the insurrection in Malaya.

Mr. Creech Jones

The granting of riot and civil commotion covers and the settlement of claims under such covers arising out of disturbances in Malaya are matters which rest within the discretion of individual insurers. It is understood, however, that, provided the situation does not deteriorate, riot and civil commotion cover will continue to be available and it is reasonable to assume that, in the absence of such deterioration, claims will be settled as in the past, with or without admission of liability, as the circumstances of each case would appear to dictate.
