HC Deb 21 April 1948 vol 449 c139W
23. Mr. Levy

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will assure the House that, when on 15th May British troops lay down their responsibilities in Palestine, British ships will also take no further part in blockading the coast-line.

Mr. Mayhew

After 15th May the British authorities will have no responsibility for the control of immigration into Palestine as a whole; any action taken by them to control the movement of immigrants into or through the areas in which the General Officer Commanding is exercising military authority will be confined to that necessary for the protection of British Forces and the orderly progress of the evacuation.
