HC Deb 28 October 1947 vol 443 c46W
73. Wing-Commander Hulbert

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will give an estimate of the loss of revenue during the present financial year consequent upon the abolition of private motoring on 1st October.

Mr. Dalton

I would refer the hon. and gallant Member to the reply which I gave yesterday to the hon. Member for South Edinburgh (Sir W. Darling). I cannot yet give an estimate for the current financial year because it is uncertain how soon the revenue will be affected.

75. Mr. Medlicott

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he is aware that large numbers of ex-Service men, particularly in country districts, have invested their gratuities and savings in garages and petrol stations in the anticipation that the basic petrol ration would not be withdrawn; and what measures are contemplated to give these men appropriate compensation for the loss they will sustain.

Mr. Dalton

I regret that it is not possible to arrange for compensation in these cases.
