§ 50. Mr. Edward Evansasked the Minister of Food whether he is aware that quinces were retailed at Amersham at 10d. per lb. while at Pinner the price was 1s. 6d. per lb. on the same date; and, since prices of fruit and vegetables at these two places show a wide variation, whether he will impose controls on the prices of vegetables and fruits in good supply.
283W
§ Mr. StracheyI have no information about quince prices—the supplies of this fruit are quite negligible. I have, however, looked into the prices of a number of fruits and vegetables in the neighbourhoods mentioned and these do not seem to show more variations than would be expected. In any case I do not necessarily regard price variations as bad—it all depends on the direction in which the prices vary.
