HC Deb 24 November 1947 vol 444 c256W
Mr. Piratin

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what was the amount of money raised during 1946 from the 10 per cent. deduction from racecourse totalisators for the purpose of horse breeding; and how was this money allocated and used.

Mr. Ede

The amount allocated out of the totalisator surplus for 1946 for purposes conducive to the improvement of breeds of horses, to the advancement and encouragement of veterinary science and education and to charities was £32,800. At 31st August, 1946, the fund had, in addition, a credit balance of £20,084, making a total of £52,884. Of this sum £34,400 was allocated for purposes conducive to the improvement of breeds of horses, grants being made to various horse societies. I am sending the hon. Member details of the distribution between the societies.
