HC Deb 20 November 1947 vol 444 c219W
117. Major Beamish

asked the Minister of Food if he will make a statement on the progress of negotiations with the Roumanian Government regarding the possible purchase by this country of food stuffs, including maize, sunflower seed oil, and oil cake for cattle; and what have been the causes of the delays in reaching any agreement.

Dr. Summerskill

I would refer the hon. Member to the replies given to the hon. Members for Thirsk and Malton (Mr. Turton) and for Ripon (Mr. York) on 10th November and I2th November respectively. I would add that His Majesty's Government are still without official information both on the specific quantities of goods which might be made available to the United Kingdom and on the supplies which the Roumanian Government expect to obtain in exchange.
