§ 13. Mr. D. J. Williamsasked the President of the Board of Trade what representations he has received from the National Federation of Building Trade Employers on the subject of factory construction in the Development Areas; if any negotiations have taken place on this matter; what was the outcome of these negotiations; and if any decisions have been reached regarding factory construction in the South Wales Development Area.
§ Mr. H. WilsonMy right hon. Friend the Minister of Works is in close touch with both sides of the building industry about the effects of the reduction of the Capital Investments Programme, though 199W there have been no discussions specifically on factory building in Development Areas. As a result of this reduction the whole building programme is at present being reviewed, but any factories in Development Areas at the steel erection stage or later will certainly be completed.
§ 14. Mr. D. J. Williamsasked the President of the Board of Trade how many factories are now in course of construction in the South Wales Development Area; if work is still proceeding on these factories; and if it is intended to complete them all.
§ Mr. H. WilsonOne hundred and sixty factories are at present under construction in the South Wales Development Area and work is still proceeding on all of them. With regard to the last part of the Question, I am afraid I cannot give my hon. Friend a definite answer until we have finished the review of factory building necessitated by the cuts in the Investment Programme referred to by my right hon. and learned Friend, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, in reply to a Question by my hon. Friend on Tuesday last.
