asked the Postmaster General if he will abolish the wireless licence fee, in view of the fact that over 90 per cent. of the homes in the country have wireless, thereby saving a considerable number of man hours and much paper used in this detailed collection of tax which could be a general charge on the Exchequer.

No. The reasons for the Government's decision to continue the present system of licensing broadcast receivers were set out in the White Paper on Broadcasting Policy (Command No. 6852) and still hold good in essential respects.
