HC Deb 19 November 1947 vol 444 cc184-5W
70. Mrs. Braddock

asked the Minister of Food if he is aware that the reduction in import of dried egg is a serious hardship to the housewife; what steps he intends taking to make up the reduction by an additional ration of shell eggs; and is he satisfied that the Egg Marketing Scheme is working satisfactorily.

Mr. Strachey

I much regret that our dollar position involves a reduction in dried egg imports. Everything possible is being done to increase supplies of shell eggs both from home production and from any oversea source open to us. I am glad to say that an agreement has recently been concluded with Denmark for further shipments of eggs. I am satisfied that the egg marketing scheme enables us to distribute fairly the great bulk of our supplies of eggs.
