HC Deb 19 November 1947 vol 444 c184W
67. Mr. Symonds

asked the Minister of Food if, when successive allocations of bananas to an area are insufficient to provide a pound of bananas for each green ration book holder, he will ensure fairer distribution by instructing greengrocers to supply, on the first day after the arrival of an allocation, only those green ration book holders whose unmarked books show they received none of the previous allocation.

Mr. Strachey

When an allocation is made to a particular area, enough bananas, including an addition for wastage, are sent in to give 1 lb. per head to all children under 18 and to expectant mothers, so that all shall have an opportunity of obtaining their share during the first three days. It would be difficult to carry the entitlement over from one allocation to the next.
