HC Deb 17 November 1947 vol 444 c130W
34. Mr. Nally

asked the Minister of Supply if he will have an immediate inquiry made into the circumstances under which a football pool organisation whose name has been supplied to him or a publicity firm acting on its behalf has been enabled to acquire quantities of sheet metal for use in advertising.

Mr. G. R. Strauss

The hoarding to which I understand my hon. Friend is referring, contains about eight cwts. of sheet steel of poor quality. Under the steel distribution scheme, consumers are allowed to purchase such limited amounts without licence.

35. Mr. Nally

asked the Minister of Supply if he will give an undertaking that no additional allocations of sheet metal or other materials will be made to the industrial subsidiaries of football pool organisations as part of any arrangements that have been or may be made for the transfer of football pool employees to more necessary work.

Mr. G. R. Strauss

Applications for materials from such companies would be dealt with in the same way as applications from other manufacturing concerns. Allocations are related to the proportion of output which is to be exported and to the need for the products in the home market.
