HC Deb 17 November 1947 vol 444 c147W
135. Mr. House

asked the Minister for Economic Affairs what steps are being taken to ensure the full allocation of coke supplies for the production of pig iron.

Mr. Marquand

I have been asked to reply. The winter coke requirements of the blast furnaces are 199,000 tons per week and this amount has been allocated in full. This involves higher deliveries than at any time in the last 20 years, and in order to achieve this, supplies of metallurgical coke to other consumers will have to be replaced where practicable by other grades. Provided transport difficulties are overcome, it is expected that the full amount will be delivered.
