§ Lieutenant Mullanasked the Secretary of State for Air whether he is aware that at Bishop's Court Aerodrome, County Down, on reduction of M/T driver personnel, the services of a disabled ex-Service man who has carried out the duties for 20 months are being dispensed with, while non-ex-Service men are being retained; and whether he will take steps to rectify this.
§ Mr. A. HendersonBy agreement with the trades unions, discharges on redundancy are broadly governed by the "last in, first out" principle. This principle applies to ex-Service men, and also to disabled persons, since my Department employs a higher percentage of disabled persons than that stipulated in the Disabled Persons (Employment) Act, 1944. I regret that I cannot make an exception in this case to the agreed rules, which apply to all Government establishments.
