HC Deb 13 November 1947 vol 444 c113W
Lieutenant Mullan

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether he is aware that at Bishop's Court Aerodrome, County Down, on reduction of M/T driver personnel, the services of a disabled ex-Service man who has carried out the duties for 20 months are being dispensed with, while non-ex-Service men are being retained; and whether he will take steps to rectify this.

Mr. A. Henderson

By agreement with the trades unions, discharges on redundancy are broadly governed by the "last in, first out" principle. This principle applies to ex-Service men, and also to disabled persons, since my Department employs a higher percentage of disabled persons than that stipulated in the Disabled Persons (Employment) Act, 1944. I regret that I cannot make an exception in this case to the agreed rules, which apply to all Government establishments.
