HC Deb 10 November 1947 vol 444 cc7-8W
70. Mr. S. Shephard

asked the Minister of Transport if he will issue an order making it compulsory for all side roads to carry a halt or other warning sign where they emerge on to a main trunk road.

Mr. Callaghan

No. Each case should be considered in the light of local conditions.

87. Sir G. Fox

asked the Minister of Transport what steps are being taken to implement the recommendations contained in the report of the Departmental Committee on Traffic Signs, 1944, in order to provide a better and more standardised system of signposts and numbering of all trunk and classified roads and to make signposts more visible at night.

Mr. Callaghan

The report has been circulated by my right hon. Friend to highway authorities, who have been asked to give effect to its recommendations so far as they concern the signposting of roads.
