HC Deb 10 November 1947 vol 444 cc29-30W
Mr. Wilkes

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware of the hardship caused to the wives of merchant seamen long separated from their husbands by reason of the fact that they are now not allowed to take any money out of the United Kingdom and are therefore no longer able as formerly to visit their husbands when their ships are due to arrive in West European ports; and whether he will allow a merchant seaman's wife to take out of the United Kingdom a sum which will enable her to maintain herself so that she may visit the husband in port.

Mr. Dalton

Arrangements are now being worked out to meet such cases.
