HC Deb 10 November 1947 vol 444 c7W
Sir R. Glyn

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether, in the scheme of dedication of private woodlands administered by the Forestry Commission, plantations of poplar, specially suitable for match splint purposes, will ordinarily qualify under the Commission's scheme; whether a grant for such planting will be approved to include revised sums to meet increasing costs of labour and material for fencing purposes; and whether he is aware that the present uncertainty has prevented many landowners from going forward this season with the Forestry Dedication Scheme to which it is understood the Ministry attach considerable importance.

Mr. T. Williams

Poplar plantations, if properly made and stocked with trees, will qualify for grants under the Forestry Commission's Dedication Scheme. Dedication under Basis I provides for a refund to the owner of 25 per cent. of the approved net annual expenditure incurred in forestry operations on the dedicated woods. Under Basis II the planting grant of £10 per acre and the maintenance grants of 3s. 4d. per acre will be reviewed in five years from 1st October, 1946. A booklet explaining the Dedication Scheme in full is with the printers and will be available soon.
