HC Deb 10 November 1947 vol 444 c11W
96. Mr. Sparks

asked the Minister of Supply what steps are being taken to expedite the supply of equipment for storage installation in connection with the conversion of railway steam locomotives to oil burning; and what degree of priority is allocated in supply.

Mr. G. R. Strauss

The highest priority is given to the programme for coal-oil conversion of the railways. It is estimated that supply of the necessary storage installation equipment will be completed by the end of February, 1948.

Mr. Sparks

asked the Minister of Supply what progress has been made in the coal to oil conversion programme of the steel industry; and how much coal has so far been saved by the substitution of oil.

Mr. G. R. Strauss

The approved programme is about half completed. It is estimated that approximately 400,000 tons of coal have so far been saved.
