HC Deb 04 November 1947 vol 443 cc177-8W
75. Mr. Osborne

asked the President of the Board of Trade what consultations he had before fixing the price of 26s. a pair for the 71,000 pairs of officers' surplus boots that were sold to Kings Industries Limited, of Brighton; and since these were readily re-sold from 65s. to £5 a pair, if he intends to seek advice from the same quarter on future occasions.

Mr. Belcher

The boots were sold by tender on condition that they should be ex- ported. As the hon. Member was informed on 12th August, the conditions of sale were not observed in a small proportion of cases, but steps have been taken to prevent any repetition of this.
