§ Mr. G. R. StraussGrants from the Road Fund for the maintenance of classified roads in 1947–48 have not been made in accordance with any rigid formula. Account was taken of the estimates of expenditure by the respective county councils, of local conditions, including the damage done to the roads by frosts, snow and floods, and of the special needs of the development areas.
