HC Deb 27 March 1947 vol 435 c238W
Brigadier Mackeson

asked the Minister of Food what steps he is taking to increase the allocation of rationed and unrationed foodstuffs to the coastal areas of Kent during the coming holiday season.

Mr. Strachey

The existing arrangements are sufficiently elastic to ensure adequate supplies of food in holiday resorts. Retailers, caterers and hotel keepers may obtain increased supplies of rationed foods on supplementary permits; they are also granted extra points credits for the purchase of additional supplies of points-rationed foods. The method of distribution of certain ingredients for cakes, pies and so on takes account of the seasonal influx of visitors. A number of unrationed foods are not allocated by my Department and traders will no doubt make their own arrangements as usual.
