HC Deb 12 March 1947 vol 434 c215W
Mr. Sharp

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury how many civil servants, showing separately those of the administrative grade, were recruited during 1946; how many of these were recruited through the Civil Service Commission; and what he estimates will be the corresponding figures for 1947.

Mr. Glenvil Hall

During 1946, 22,238 persons were declared successful in competitions for the permanent Civil Service conducted by the Civil Service Commissioners; of these, 252 were in the administrative class. During 1947 it is estimated that the corresponding intake will be approximately 30,300, including 250 to the administrative class. No central record is kept of temporary appointments made by Government Departments.
